Surprising Shower Drain Trick: Drop a Balloon

The Balloon Trick That Stops Cockroaches in Your Shower No one wants cockroaches in their bathroom, especially coming from the shower drain.

These unwelcome guests thrive in warm, damp spaces, and your bathroom provides the perfect hiding spot. But there’s a surprisingly simple way to keep them out using a common household item: a balloon.

Roaches are drawn to your bathroom because it offers everything they need—moisture, warmth, and darkness.

Drains are an easy access point, especially when food residue or standing water is present. While cleaning and reducing moisture are key to preventing an infestation, sometimes extra measures are needed.

Here’s how to block roaches from crawling up your shower drain with a balloon: 1. Remove the Drain Cover: Take off your shower drain cover to get access. 2. Prepare the Balloon: Cut both ends off a regular party balloon to create a tube. 3. Cover the Drain: Slip the balloon over the drain cover and secure it. The water will still drain through, but the tight balloon will stop roaches from crawling out. 4. Replace Occasionally: To keep it working effectively, change the balloon from time to time.

This clever trick works because it narrows the passage just enough for water to flow but prevents roaches from sneaking through. Beyond the balloon, check for cracks around pipes or vents where roaches can enter. Keep the bathroom dry, wipe surfaces regularly, and always close the toilet lid. Cleanliness and vigilance are key to winning the battle against roaches.
