Do NOT ignore these signs…

A stroke occurs suddenly when blood flow to the brain stops, causing brain cells to die, according to Healthline.

Quick medical attention is vital.

The American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association (ASA) state that people treated with a blood clot–dissolving drug within 4.5 hours have a better chance of recovery without major disability.

Recognizing symptoms early can save lives. The Stroke Association recommends using the FAST test: Face weakness (check for drooping), Arm weakness (can both arms be raised?), Speech problems (slurred or unclear speech), and Time to call emergency services if any signs appear.

While strokes strike without warning, a 2020 study in The Journal of Headache and Pain found that about 15% of people who suffered an ischemic stroke experienced a “sentinel headache” in the week before. These headaches lasted until the stroke occurred.

Another important warning sign is a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), or “mini-stroke,” where blood flow is briefly blocked. Though symptoms fade within hours, TIAs should never be ignored — one-third of those who experience them may later have a major stroke.

Recent JAMA Network research shows that prompt care after a TIA has reduced the risk of a full stroke within 90 days, highlighting the importance of immediate action.

Other stroke symptoms include sudden numbness or weakness on one side, confusion or trouble speakingvision problems, and difficulty walkingdue to dizziness or loss of balance.

Acting fast is crucial. Call emergency services immediately if you or someone nearby shows these signs. Quick treatment greatly increases the chance of survival and recovery.

Understanding risk factors and recognizing early symptoms can make all the difference. Share this information — knowing what to do in those first moments can save a life.
