Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – A vehicle traveling Thursday afternoon along the 30 de Mayo Highway, near the Santo Domingo Helipad, ended up in the waters of the Caribbean Sea in an incident that has caused significant shock.
According to preliminary information, it has not yet been confirmed how many people were aboard the vehicle or the exact reasons that caused the car to plunge into the sea. However, rescue teams have recovered the lifeless body of the driver, while efforts continue to confirm whether there were any additional occupants.
The operation involves the National District Fire Department, the Dominican Republic Navy, the 9-1-1 drone unit, the National Police, brigades from the Ministry of Public Works, and the DAEH. General Superintendent José Luis Frómeta Herasme, head of the fire department, reported that they will continue working in the area until all search possibilities are exhausted.
Witnesses stated that before the incident, the driver entered a nearby park and then accelerated the vehicle toward the water. So far, no details have been provided regarding the make or characteristics of the car.
The 9-1-1 System confirmed that the body recovered belongs to the man who was driving the vehicle, and it has not yet been determined if he was accompanied. Search efforts continue with the support of divers and specialized drones.
