Many spotted the same disturbing detail on stage at Charlie Kirk’s memorial

There was plenty that made headlines as hundreds of thousands gathered to honor the memory of right-wing figure Charlie Kirk.

From Donald Trump’s speech, to Erika Kirk’s emotional forgiveness of the suspected killer — and even Elon Musk making a surprise appearance.

But it was another detail on stage that caught people’s attention — something many described as disturbing.

Something rarely seen at an indoor event

On Sunday, massive crowds came together to honor Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk, with his memorial service drawing one of the biggest public gatherings ever held for a private citizen.

Fox News reported that around 90,000 people turned out for the memorial, with about 70,000 filling State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, to its full capacity.

The memorial was also streamed live on Rumble under the title: “Building A Legacy, Remembering Charlie Kirk.” The event drawn over 100,000 online viewers even before it started and as people tuned in, many took to social media to point out one striking detail on stage.

While musicians performed ahead of speeches from high-profile political figures, viewers noticed that the podium at the center of the stage was surrounded by bulletproof glass.

According to Ladbible, one user on X wrote: “The podium at Charlie Kirk’s funeral is enclosed in bulletproof glass, something rarely seen at an indoor event.”

Another added: “Interior events do not normally use bullet proof glass, but at the Charlie Kirk memorial, security is next level.”

A third remarked: “The podium is thankfully enclosed by bullet proof glass for Charlie Kirk’s celebration of life. What have we become?”

Released a video

The main podium being enclosed in bulletproof glass was, of course, a security measure that has become standard for presidential events since last year’s assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

”It breaks my heart that even at a memorial service, we need bulletproof glass to protect people from potential attacks. But in a way, it also shows the strength of this movement—no matter the threats, people still showed up by the tens of thousands to stand together. That’s courage,” another person wrote on Facebook.

Trump, along with several top administration officials, later viewed the service from a suite also shielded by bulletproof glass, while nearly the entire Cabinet occupied seats in the front row.

Critics argue that when elected officials are unable to safely engage with the public without physical barriers, it highlights a growing disconnect between leaders and the citizens they represent — and raises serious questions about what this trend could mean for the health of democracy over time.

At the same time, security is undeniably crucial in a country like the U.S., which has, unfortunately, witnessed far too many political assassinations and assassination attempts over the years.

In the wake of her husband’s death, Erika Kirk released a video condemning the “evildoers” behind the assassination. She warned: “They should all know this: If you thought my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea. You have no idea what you just have unleashed across this entire country, and this world.”

She continued: “In a world filled with chaos, doubt and uncertainty, my husband’s voice will remain and it will ring out louder and more clearly than ever.”

While standing next to Donald Trump, Erika also made a special hand gesture that left many wondering about its meaning — read more about it here.

On September 10, 31-year-old Charlie Kirk was gunned down while speaking at Utah Valley University during his American Comeback Tour, a series aimed at sparking debate on controversial topics with college students.

Kirk, who launched Turning Point USA when he was just 18, quickly climbed the ranks to become a leading conservative figure. Still, his outspoken views on issues such as gun rights, LGBTQ matters, and race frequently sparked backlash from critics on the left and beyond.
