Donald Trump Suggests a New Name for…

Trump Proposes Renaming Veterans Day to “Victory Day for World War I”. Former President Donald Trump has suggested changing Veterans Day to “Victory Day for World War I.” On his platform Truth Social, he encouraged Americans to “start celebrating our victories again.”

Emphasizing U.S. Achievements in the World Wars. Trump argued that while the United States played a decisive role in both World Wars, the nation fails to properly acknowledge these accomplishments due to weak leadership. He also proposed renaming Victory in Europe Day (May 8) to “Victory in World War II Day,” asserting that the U.S. contributed more than any other country to achieving victory.

Potential Backlash. Critics warn that such a change could provoke international tensions, particularly with countries like Russia, which endured enormous losses during the wars.

Historical Context

Veterans Day, originally called Armistice Day, was established to mark the end of World War I. In the 1950s, the holiday was expanded to honor all American veterans. Today, it is observed as a solemn day of remembrance rather than a celebration of military victories.
