Tragic Update On US Olympic Hero Mary Lou Retton’s Condition

Mary Lou Retton, Olympic gold medalist and West Virginia native, is in intensive care battling pneumonia and unable to breathe on her own. Her daughter, McKenna Kelley, shared that Retton has been hospitalized for over a week and does not have insurance, launching a *spotfund to help cover costs while asking for prayers and support.

Retton rose to fame at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, becoming the first American to win the all-around gold in gymnastics, alongside two silver and two bronze medals. Beyond her athletic career, she appeared on TV, served on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness, and became a respected ambassador for gymnastics. Honored in her hometown of Fairmont with a road and park named after her, Retton remains a beloved figure whose courage and legacy inspire many.
