11-year-old girl sacrifices her life to save cousin in tubing tragedy

Summer had only just begun when a Florida family’s world shattered in an instant.

What was meant to be a carefree day on the water turned into a nightmare — and a moment of unforgettable heroism.

Eleven-year-old Jordan Roe, known as her family’s “protector,” gave her life to save her 8-year-old cousin, Laila, during a tragic tubing accident on Star Lake in Florida. On June 24, Jordan, Laila, and 9-year-old Brylee were being pulled by a jet ski when it crashed into a dock, throwing them into the water. Brylee escaped with minor injuries, but Jordan shielded Laila, who survived after multiple surgeries.

Jordan’s aunt said, “She sacrificed her life, and she saved her cousin’s life with her life.” Her mother, Kristine Robinson, urged families to cherish loved ones and practice water safety, while tributes poured in remembering Jordan as compassionate, free-spirited, and dreaming of becoming a veterinarian.

Even in death, Jordan gave life again—donating her organs to help others. Two fundraisers now support Jordan’s funeral and Laila’s recovery, as the community mourns and honors a young girl whose courage and love will never fade.
